100 Things

Did you know? Eve was Adam’s 2nd wife. Cat should’ve been in the original Chinese zodiac. Crow birds used to be white. The original unlucky Friday the 13th occurred on Friday 13 October 1307. Meanwhile, Hong Kong was captured by Britain in 1842 because of British people’s love of tea. 70% of the world’s hazelnut are produced in Turkey, 60% of the world’s vanilla are supplied by Madagascar. And that hole in your doughnut was invented by a sea captain after he had difficulty eating them while steering his ship.

Did you also know that Alexander Graham Bell wasn’t the 1st inventor of the telephone, Thomas Alva Edison wasn’t the inventor of the light bulb and, likewise, Isaac Newton wasn’t the original inventor of the theory of gravity. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong and Spain’s dictator General Franco all have 1 testicle. Another ruthless dictator Pol Pot (the leader of Cambodia’s brutal regime Khmer Rouge) once served in a Buddhist monastery. If you think that’s weird, the founder of Save the Children charity organisation actually didn’t like children, and the inventor of Fender guitars never knew how to play the guitar.

Meanwhile, there’s a town in Canada named Dildo, a town in France named Anus, a town named Shit’ in Ethiopia and a village named Fucking in Austria. Bahrain was Iran’s 14th province. Liechtenstein is the only country named after the people who bought it. Texas was once part of Mexico. And if you’ve never heard of the Republic of Subcarpathian Ruthenia it’s probably because the country only lasted for 1 day.

The world is a truly fascinating place, and its history are filled with interesting stories to tell. These are the amusing, the forgotten and the downright hilarious stories that I have learned throughout the years, stories that have shaped the modern world that we live in today. Every little thing has its origins, every error or tragedies can lead to something big and one look into it all can make sense of what’s going on in the world right now.
